ARTIST STATEMENT
But What Was Gained is an exhibition of interdisciplinary works exploring the foundational narrative of humanity’s first choice. The story of Eve and the apple has become synonymous with temptation and the Fall, but can the story of the first woman be interpreted as the origin of free will? Is change always a bad thing?
This body of jewelry and 2-D work taps into themes of agency, femininity, and potential; asking if rather than condemning Eve for choosing the fruit, we should be thanking her. Paradise was lost, but what was gained?
